Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effects of marital satisfaction and mindfulness on the relationship between parenting stress and smartphone addiction tendency of mothers with infant children. Based on previous research, we hypothesized that there would be a significant relationship between parenting stress, marital satisfaction, mindfulness, and smartphone addiction tendency.
The results of this study are summarized as follows. The relationship between parenting stress and smartphone addiction tendency was found to be mediated completely by mindfulness, meaning that mindfulness importantly affects the impact of parenting stress on smartphone addiction tendency. Therefore even if the parenting stress is high, a mother with high level of mindfulness will not tend to become addicted to her smartphone. On the other hand, suprisingly, in the relationship between parenting stress and smartphone addiction tendencies, the mediated effect of marital satisfaction was found to be insignificant. Parenting stress was confirmed to affect the tendency toward smartphone addiction through the continuously selling of marital satisfaction and mindfulness. This means that people with high parenting stress will be less satisfied with their marriage. This also makes mindfulness difficult, which increases the risk of smartphone addiction. The findings here, limitations, and proposals for follow-up study are discussed.
